If you’ve never heard of Kill Buck, New York, maybe you’ve heard of the Enchanted Mountains. Not too far away from this scenic New York area is the single story home of Don Harris. Two years ago Don purchased a Country Flame Crossfire fireplace insert and installed it where an old, less efficient wood fireplace had been. Since the Crossfire has taken up residence in the Harris family room, it’s been a contributing member of the household. “It’s a good performer,” says Don. “We bought it as a back-up for our propane heat, and it’s been a good addition.”
Don readily admits he’s in his seventies and tends to get cold easily. The fireplace keeps the house warm and is good on the checkbook too. Don primarily burns wood pellets which he’s found in out-state New York for as little as $215 per ton. He estimates he burns two tons of pellets each winter, which significantly helps with heating costs since he’s on a fixed rate propane budget/bill.
If you’re considering a fireplace insert to replace an older and dirtier traditional fireplace, take it from Don. He’s happy with his Crossfire insert, and isn’t afraid to tell others about his positive experience.
