A common question asked by people considering a pellet stove is how hot the outside of the stove gets once it is on. The MagnuM line of pellet stoves are wonderful appliances that stay amazingly cool most places. They have a very small amount of required clearance, as the top and sides of the stove do not get hot. For example, the Countryside pellet stove’s clearance to combustibles is Back 1″, Sides 1″, Corner 1″!
The front glass of the pellet stove does get hot, as radiant heat is one of the pellet stove’s beautiful benefits. You will not want to touch the glass. The back venting also gets hot, for obvious reasons. The handle does not get hot, and you can open the door while the stove is running if you need to remove a klinker. For safety, you need to keep children from getting close to the stove when it is on.
