Finding a Part for a Reliant Stove

Dear American Energy Systems,

Two weeks ago, my Reliant industries pellet stove’s circuit board went bad. Knowing that Reliant was out of business, I went ahead and called their phone number anyway and received a warm welcome from a gracious couple who said it had been a long time since they had heard from a Reliant owner.

You may want to send some kind of referral compensation to them for customers like me. Anyway, I called them back and thanked them for telling me to go to American Energy Systems online.

Why?

I am a satisfied customer! And here’s why.

Your parts department, by my description and part numbers that I submitted online, sent me to the correct location of the Magnum website. I found the proper part, which works fantastic.

You don’t have to post this if you don’t want to, I just feel like in that movie, A Miracle On 34th Street, when a Macy’s customer is sent to Gimbles when Macy’s was unable to help.  This analogy make sense to me. You sold me a part to a stove you didn’t manufacture. However, when I do need to buy a new stove someday, Magnum will be my number #1 choice.

Thank You,

Robert T. K. Grant

American Energy Systems is not the manufacturer of this product. An earlier Country Flame company out of Mt. Vernon Missouri made this product. We recently purchased the rights to use the Country Flame name (2008). Sometimes we can help find parts though. Please email [email protected] pictures of the control board front and back and they will try to help out.

I am sorry but this unit model was discontinued by the company that built it over 25 years ago and we do not have access to manuals or parts. Usually if the auger is not working it could be something stuck in it, the vacuum hose plugged or broken or the vacuum sensor is shot. If it is the sensor you could bypass the wiring and see if the unit will operate. If it does, then email [email protected] and they can help you get a part for it. If you would like to upgrade to a newer unit that you can get parts for also let them know and the factory has special incentives for you.

You can contact the technical Department at the factory at [email protected] with pictures of the parts that you need and they will be able to help you out. They should have a scanned manual also for your model.

We have a Reliant modesl Essex Serial No. 2533, 32000 btu. The auger would not operate. We cleaned it, but when we pushed the start button the little lead light on the panel won’t come on. We checked out the circuits and they seem to be OK but we’re not getting power to the auger. There’s a circuit breaker(?) on the auger housing. A couple of years ago the auger quit operating and we pressed the circuit breaker and it fixed the problem. This time it didn’t work. Any suggestions? Do you have a manual we can buy? Our phone no. is 775-426-9706. We live in Nevada and it’s cold! Thanks

    • admin says

      December 21, 2011 at 11:15 am

Jim, you can download the ESSEX owners manual online at http://www.magnumheat.com. If there is power everywhere else except the auger it could be the vacuum sensor, a wire loose, the board or the high temp snap disk. You might want to bypass the vacuum sensor to see if things operate before spending money. Download the manual and then let me know what you find.
There should be a light blinking on the board if it is a newer board or if it is the rotary board if nothing works, then the board is toast.

      December 21, 2011 at 2:17 pm

If everything is running correctly past the startup cycle ( first 15 minutes), then the board should be working ok. Depending on what happens to shut the unit down after 30 minutes will determine what might need replacing. Sometimes, especially with the poor quality wood pellets these days, the auger might quit feeding for a bit, the fire dies down over time and the fire cannot startup again. If you can tell me exactly what happens when it shuts down i can lead you to the answer. If you have the digital board tell me what light is blinking when it shuts down. You can email [email protected] for technical email support. Parts can be ordered online depending on what is needed. Technical will direct you.

Yes, if the room air blower or the draft blower run constantly even though the switch has been turned to off, then the low temp sensor is bad. The part number for that is MF3537

Hi Charles, Thanks for contacting American Energy Systems. You can look at the igniters that we have in the online store. It may be the RP2000 which is the igniter that went in The T40 and Essex units. go to Magnumheat.com, click on Ecom Store. Next, go to Magnum Parts, click on Electrical Components, and the part number is RP2000 and look at the picture. I hope this does the trick, if not, please email or call us directly. I have a Reliant stove that will start up and run fine for about 10 – 15 minutes and then the lights on the control panel go out and the feed stops, but the fans still run until I unplug it. Any ideas on where to start???

    • admin says

      November 20, 2012 at 4:29 pm

If the #3 light blinks when it shuts down, then the low temp proof of fire sensor is bad. If the sensor is good, then it could be that the stove is dirty or the sensor is dirty and the unit did not get up to temp quick enough to finish the startup cycle. If the #2 light blinks then the vacuum sensor has sensed a loose door, gasket leaking, venting plugged, fresh air not hooked up or plugged. From there it could be a bad board wall thermostat or wiring problem.

My stove is the Essex model, with the serial number: 10376. It does not have any lights that blink. I also discovered tonight that if I turn the stove off on the side panel that I cannot turn it back on. I believe that the control board is probably the culprit. Can you e-mail me the cost of a new one if it is available? Please and thank you. I really appreciate all of the help. You guys are awesome!

        • admin says

          November 21, 2012 at 8:39 am

We need to identify if this older Essex model has a new digital board (you would push the on/off button and the board engages) or the older style rotary board (there is a dial to turn and a couple of rocker switches). If you have the older style board our vendor no longer makes or supports them so you would have to upgrade your board and possibly the wiring harness to the newest board. You would contact the factory technical center at 320-57-6565 to work through this information. You can send your board into the tech center to have it evaluated if you like. There is a $35.00 charge for doing so though so might be good to invest in a new board. For direct tech assistance email [email protected]

First of all Thanks for providing support for Reliant Pellet stoves. I own a T-40 DC and having trouble with High temp limit switch, it keeps tripping. I don’t think the problem is the limit switch though, the auger is over feeding the fire box and the fire get so hot that it is tripping the High temp limit switch. Do you have any ideas??? April 1, 2013 at 6:26 am

Typically when the firepot overflows and either builds up into the fuel drop tube or burns around inside the firebox, either the fuel is really bad, fresh air is not connected or it is plugged, exhaust blower needs upgrading or replacing because of the fuel, exhaust venting is plugged or the door gaskets are leaking. Check all of these things, clean the exhaust manifold and rest of the unit and see what happens. You can email [email protected] for additional assistance.

The Reliant Trailblazer was built by a company out of Placerville California over 25 years ago. We do not have any manuals available for their product. We also do not have any parts available anymore for this particular model. American Energy Systems, the company that purchased Reliant a few years back is giving exceptional discounts on replacement units though. You can save over $750.00 on a replacement unit. It has the old style control panel with rocker switches for manual feed and on/off, a dial for fan speed, and a push button start. We started it in the prime mode it went fine and after that completed we pushed the on off button in, holding for 5 seconds, the ignition light came on and instantly the lights began to flash and never ignited. We tried starting it with out priming and the same thing happened, any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Lori

Lori, it sounds like the safety sensor on the Vacuum sensor tripped out the stove. Might be that the venting or fresh air is not balanced correctly or possibly the sequence of starting the unit. Unplug the unit, wait about 5 minutes and then plug back in. Let it go through the diagnostic sequence for about 15 minutes and then push the start button. If it continues email [email protected] and they will walk through everything with you.

All safety features and operational features of the board are important for the safety of the home and the unit. If a safety feature is not working it must be replaced.

There is a 10 minute startup cycle on the control board. If the unit does not get up to temperature within that time it will shut down. The Low temp sensor that runs this is located on the side of the exhaust blower. Jumper the wires on it and if all runs replace it. Part number MF3537. If it still clicks and shuts down then the control board is shot. Email [email protected] with pictures of the board to identify the correct series.

I have an Reliant pellet stove that’s once going and gets hot , the blower fan stops operating and the pellets continue to feed smothering out the firepot and backdrafts smoke into the room. After a considerable amount of time the blower sometimes starts up again and if there are any embers left will restart the fire.
        Any suggestions ?

          December 8, 2014 at 2:44 pm

If you are referring to the exhaust blower that would mean that the blower is wearing out and needs to be replaced. The part number would be RP2030.

I have a Country Side Magnum J3500. Started it last night for the first time like normal, it heated up as usual but the blower would not turn on. I contacted american energy and they said to jumper the wires for the sensor MF3537 to see if that’s the problem. So if I basically take the two wires from that sensor, tie them together, the blower should automatically start fanning after plugging the unit back in and do nothing else, correct? And if not, then would it be more than likely the blower having issues?

    • admin says

      November 11, 2014 at 2:41 pm

Yes, the blower should run after the unit is plugged in and turned on, if it does not, then the wiring or the blower is the problem.

I have a reliant pellet stove Model: Baron fs1 that was made in Placerville over 20 years ago. My wife broke a switch and both spacer bars off of the actual control board. I searched every where trying to find somebody that had the knowledge to repair or rebuild that control board. I was just about to throw in the towel, when luckily i stumbled across JOE NARDUZZI. My pellet stove crapped out one day before a major rain storm(cold rain storm) was coming in.. I called Joe on a Saturday morning and he told me to bring it down to his place of business and he would look at it. My control board is a analog push start control button that ran off 120 v and it had a battery back-up in case of a power outage that would run on 12 VDC. Joe did what everyone else said could,nt be done. He repaired it while I watched…Joe canit fix control boards that require computer software, but analog boards he can. I would think that the board I have is pretty much like most of the reliant stoves would have. Joe’s workshop is in his home and he is the most honest and truthful person that I have met and is very reasonable with pricing. Here is Joe’s address:

While this is not our product maybe I can help you out on this. Usually if the auger runs continuous, that means that the control board is bad. Unfortunately you have purchased a obsolete unit and the company that built it has been gone for over 20 years and there are no
parts available for it. We can sell you a replacement unit should you need one but have no other parts.

To check the board, watch the auger motor, if it cyles on and off and changes between settings, then the board is good. Then you would look at fuel quality or loose gaskets on the door. You will need to clean the firepot out at least once a day on that unit to avoid overfilling and overfiring of the firepot. Also have the air 2/3 open while burning. Email [email protected] for further assistance.

The unit works great 95% of the time, but occasionally shuts off in the middle of the evening for no apparent reason. I have been led to believe that it is likely a high limit switch that is tripping, and that servicing the motor may very well resolve it. Any thoughts or information would be appreciated.

The Phoenix unit has been gone for over 25 years. The company that built it is long gone and did not make provision for parts replacement. • admin says

Yes, we have been working with Applied for many years now. Unfortunately the older boards have been obsoleted by Applied because they cannot get the parts to repair or replace the boards. On some units, we can upgrade to the current control board that we have, on others it is just time to upgrade to our newer units. Pass the word and thanks for your input.

The vacuum sensor might be tripping which would cause the auger to stop working. You could bypass the wires on the vacuum switch to see if the auger works and if it does check all hoses, gaskets, clean the stove, check the venting and fresh air hookup and if all is well replace the vacuum switch.

If this is the DC model the auger motor would be part number RP2020, if it is the AC model it would be part number RP2022.
