You have questions about pellets and pellet stoves, and you’ve come to the right place.
We have answers!
It is our pleasure to help you explore the use of alternative energy for home or office heating. Many MagnuM brand appliances burn multiple renewable fuel sources including wood pellets. The question of “how long does a 40lb bag of pellets last” is likely referring to wood pellets. There are many other kinds of pellets though, such as grass pellets, paper pellets, corn-wood blend pellets, etc.
So, How Long Does a 40 lb Bag of Pellets Last?
Let’s assume we’re all referring to wood pellets. Most wood pellets are packaged in 40 lb bags, but it is possible you could find them in smaller, heavier, or bulk quantities. If you have a 40 lb bag of wood pellets, it will take more than one to fill the hopper of a MagnuM Countryside pellet stove. The hopper size of each pellet stove is slightly different, and the size offers longer time between filling it with pellets. For this example, we’ll stick to the MagnuM Countryside which holds about 75 pounds of fuel; so about two 40 lb bags of pellets.
Now the question of how long a bag lasts has to do with burn time. The heat setting on MagnuM appliances is controlled by the homeowner based on weather and personal home heating preferences. 75 pounds of fuel capacity can keep you warm for up to 50 hours on a low-moderate setting.
We know you asked about burning pellets, but it is important to know that with a MagnuM brand appliance like the Countryside, you have the option to burn shelled corn. It is a hotter burning fuel, so you need less corn for the same amount of heat as wood pellets. Learn more about burning corn here.
